The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Village of Greendale are collaborating on a project to replace outdated street lighting with new LED energy-efficient units. The engineering firm raSmith has been contracted to handle the design and environmental documentation for this initiative.

The project will be funded through the federal Carbon Reduction Program, which was established under the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This program aims to support projects that lower emissions and mandates states to devise comprehensive carbon reduction strategies.

The planned improvements do not include roadway work, real estate acquisition, or major grading activities. A map detailing the approximate locations for the street lighting work is available for reference.

Agency coordination and environmental documentation are anticipated to conclude by summer 2024. The installation of the new street lighting units is scheduled for summer 2025, with streets remaining open to traffic during this period.
