Sister Charlotte Roost OSF Vicar/Associate Director | Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi
Sister Margaret Gardner, OSF, aged 103, was renowned for her dedication to education and pastoral care. Known as a "master gardener," she was passionate about nurturing both plants and people.
This Giving Tuesday, on December 3, 2024, there is an appeal to raise $24,000 for essential medical equipment for retired Sisters who have devoted their lives to service. These women now face health issues like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's that affect their mobility.
The funds will help purchase mobile patient lifts, wheelchair scales, and pressure-relieving mattresses. Such equipment is vital for ensuring the safety and comfort of these Sisters. Any surplus funds will be allocated to additional healthcare needs not covered by Medicaid or Medicare.
Sister Margaret Gardner shared her satisfaction with her life's work: "Words cannot express my years of satisfaction and devotion to the work of living with and loving those who are poor, which was always my goal."
Donations of any amount are encouraged this Giving Tuesday to support the care needed by retired Sisters. Additionally, donors contributing $10 monthly or a one-time gift of $120 during December will receive a special thank-you gift commemorating the 175th anniversary of The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi. This includes a limited-edition poster by Sister Jeanne Carrigan, OSF, and notecards featuring artwork by Sisters Jeanne Carrigan and Stella DeVenuta.
These commemorative items celebrate the legacy of caring by The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi over 175 years (1849-2024) and are available while supplies last. They will be mailed out in January 2025.
