Milwaukee County will open two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) on Wednesday, September 24, to assist residents affected by recent flooding. The centers are intended for individuals who need help with FEMA applications, uploading documents, or want to speak directly with representatives. Residents do not have to visit a DRC to receive FEMA assistance and can go to either location without registration.
The two DRCs will be located at McNair Elementary School in Milwaukee and Wauwatosa City Hall. Both centers will operate Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; they will be closed on Sundays. The Wauwatosa center is scheduled to close on Friday, October 10, with services moving to a new location that has yet to be announced.
IMPACT 211 will stop accepting damage reports via live calls and online chat starting September 24. Residents can still use the online form until further notice but are encouraged to report flood damage directly to FEMA for funding and assistance.
Officials clarified that FEMA aid is not distributed on a first come, first served basis. All eligible Milwaukee County residents whose uninsured property was damaged in the August floods can receive assistance if they apply. Regarding the reported $29.8 million in approved federal funding, officials explained this figure represents an estimate based on preliminary assessments and does not cap individual aid amounts; all eligible applicants may receive funding even if the total exceeds this number.
Residents seeking information about flood resources or FEMA aid can find more details at county.milwaukee.gov/2025FloodResources and county.milwaukee.gov/FEMAaid. Press releases from County Executive Crowley are available at county.milwaukee.gov/EN/County-Executive/News/. Updates are also shared via social media platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
For questions about the FEMA process or media inquiries regarding FEMA, officials ask that communications be directed directly to FEMA representatives rather than other sources.
