City Of South Milwaukee issued the following announcement on March 15.

Please note that Wisconsin law requires you to submit a copy of your photo ID to us before we can mail you an absentee ballot.

Anyone planning on being out of town or unable to make it to the polling place on election day can cast an absentee ballot in the Clerk’s office, or request a ballot in writing up until the Thursday before an election. Absentee voting will be conducted in the clerk’s office the two weeks prior to an election.

2022 Spring Election Important Dates

• March 31st - 5:00 PM - Last day for regular and overseas electors to request absentee ballots by mail. 
• April 1st - 5:00 PM - Last day to register to vote in the Clerk's Office.
• April 1st - 5:00 PM - Last day for In-Person Absentee voting in the Clerk's Office.
• April 1st - 5:00 PM - Last day for indefinitely confined electors and military electors to request an absentee ballot by mail and hospitalized voter.

In-Person Absentee Voting 

• Tuesday, March 22nd - Friday,  March 25th - 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
• Monday, March  28th - Thursday, March 31st - 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
• Friday, April 1st - 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM 

Note:  There is no absentee voting or voter registration on the Monday prior to election day. 

Requests for Absentee Ballots

Requests for absentee ballots should be mailed to:

The request must list the voter’s resident address, where the ballot should be mailed (if different), the election for which they are requesting the ballot, and must be signed by the voter. Last day to mail out absentee ballots by mail is the Thursday before the election. You may also apply at MyVote Wisconsin.

Photo ID

A copy of your photo ID must accompany the request, if you have not previously provided a copy Exemptions from the photo ID requirement:

• Electors who are indefinitely confined, with the signature and address of a witness on the Absentee Certificate Envelope
• Electors residing in care facilities served by Special Voting Deputies, with the signatures of both deputies on the envelope
• Electors residing in care facilities not served by Special Voting Deputies, with the signature of an authorized representative of the care facility. If the elector is also indefinitely confined, the elector does not need a representative of the facility to sign.
• Military, Permanent Overseas and Confidential Electors-Exempt from the Photo ID requirement
