Van Wanggaard, a Republican member of the Wisconsin State Senate representing the 21st district since 2015, recently posted a series of tweets scrutinizing Milwaukee’s financial decisions following the passage of Act 12.

On September 22, 2025, Wanggaard shared a link with the comment: “How Milwaukee Spent Their Act 12 Money – https://t.co/bF4KqLD8ek https://t.co/0RKmtjQLvc”.

Two days later, on September 24, he followed up by stating: “The numbers don’t lie. Milwaukee dramatically increased pay for elected officials and department heads once Act 12 was passed. https://t.co/CHmAo9Hx3S”.

Later that same day, Wanggaard added another post questioning changes in city policies or outcomes: “Hmmm. I wonder what changed in 2019? https://t.co/ZN178rYCMS https://t.co/S6ujpUmstV”.

Wanggaard has represented his district since succeeding John Lehman in the Wisconsin State Senate in 2015. His recent social media activity highlights concerns about municipal spending priorities and leadership compensation in Milwaukee after legislative changes such as Act 12.
