HERMLE AG has announced advancements in its automation technology with the release of the GEN2 version of the robot system RS 2. The company, which has been involved in the automation of machining centers for over 25 years, emphasizes that its approach offers customers a single point of contact for both main components and service issues. This approach is encapsulated in their slogan "Everything from a single source."

The GEN2 version introduces enhancements to nearly all areas of the previous RS 2 system to better align with customer needs. The platform-based system allows customization through various modular configurations and can be adapted to one, two, or three HERMLE machining centers. It features a safety enclosure with extensive glazing for clear visibility and up to three double access doors for operator protection during manual operations.

Key components of the robot system include a base platform available in four expansion stages, a six-axis robot capable of handling transport weights up to 210 kg, two setup station systems equipped with workpiece height measurement and width control, and six rack modules designed for efficient storage strategies. The system also includes multiple transfer stations for workpiece handling and various gripper systems.

The control software plays a crucial role by managing workflows within the system, providing status updates, and offering flexible planning options across several machines. It also includes intelligent alternative strategies to address issues such as broken tools or non-processable orders.

Overall, the RS 2 GEN2 offers a compact and highly modular design that can be combined with up to three HERMLE machines. It supports seven machine models from both HERMLE series and provides maximum flexibility through configurable rack modules.
