The Village of Greendale and Milwaukee County are in discussions about a proposed land exchange aimed at enhancing local parkland and promoting environmental stewardship. The arrangement would see Milwaukee County obtaining the 13.7-acre Grootemaat Nature Preserve, positioned at S. 43rd St. and Ramsey Ave. Simultaneously, the Village would gain ownership of a 21.9-acre part of the Dale Creek Parkway. This segment, which the Village currently leases, runs from Grange Ave. to Loomis Rd. and Southway and includes the popular Gazebo Park and Daffodale Park.

This proposed swap ensures that both properties will remain public parkland with stringent protections against future development. For the Village, owning the Dale Creek Parkway area would grant more control over its maintenance, improvement, and long-term planning of the park. Both the Village and County Boards are expected to decide on the proposal by summer 2025.

Additional details and a FAQ section about the proposal can be accessed at greendale.org/landswap.
