On December 19, 2023, the Village Board of Trustees in Greendale adopted a Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP), marking a significant development for the community. This plan includes a complete inventory of park and recreation assets owned by both the Village and the School District. Public input was crucial in shaping the recommendations for future improvements.

Vandewalle & Associates prepared the CORP over eight months as part of a joint study with the Village of Greendale and the Greendale School District. The plan aligns with guidelines from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, qualifying it for matching grant funds through various programs.

The project aimed to gather public input and create recommendations for enhancing park and recreation facilities. Vandewalle and Associates collaborated with Groth Design Group on this initiative. The process involved several methods of public engagement, including a community session on July 12, 2023, where residents shared their needs and ideas.

A survey conducted between July 12 and August 7, 2023, gathered community preferences regarding current facilities and future amenities. An Ad Hoc Committee established by the Greendale Schools Board engaged diverse community members to review park conditions and propose steps for supporting recreation needs.

Project consultants also held meetings with specific groups based on demographics or involvement in organized activities. On November 28, 2023, an open house at the Greendale Safety Center presented a draft of the CORP, followed by a joint meeting of the Village Board and School District Board.

The project timeline began in May 2023 with data gathering and concluded with adopting the CORP in December 2023.
