What are common symptoms of OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) impacts an estimated 3.5 million Americans of all ages, gender identities, races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. One important step toward reducing the stigma around OCD is to better understand the symptoms.

While symptoms may vary by individual, there are some commonalities.

Common signs of OCD include:

Unwanted, anxiety-producing thoughts, images, or urges.

Driven to perform certain acts such as washing hands, checking, and re-checking something.

Compelled to think certain thoughts or phrases silently.

Seeking reassurance from family, friends, or co-workers regarding worries.
