This summer, Rogers Behavioral Health is celebrating its 115th anniversary of providing highly effective mental health and addiction treatment that helps people reach their full potential for health and well-being.
Founded by psychiatrist Arthur Rogers, MD, and his wife, Theresa, Rogers opened in 1907 in Oconomowoc, laying the foundation for what is now one of the country’s largest, independent not-for-profit behavioral health systems. Learn more about Rogers’ history here.
“Over the last 115 years, Rogers has played a pivotal role in transforming the lives of children, teens, and adults and giving them the tools to rise above the challenges of mental illness, addiction, and stigma,” said Pat Hammer, president and CEO. “We bring this vision to life by constantly elevating the standard for behavioral healthcare, demonstrating our exceptional treatment outcomes, and acting with compassion and respect.”
With locations in nine states and 20 communities nationwide, Rogers provides specialized treatment for adults, children, and adolescents with depression and other mood disorders, eating disorders, addiction, OCD and anxiety disorders, trauma, and PTSD.
In Wisconsin, Rogers has three inpatient behavioral health hospitals, 17 residential programs, eight outpatient centers, and a supportive living facility. Rogers will open its newest location in Denver this fall.
“We have over 300 programs, we routinely serve as many as 1,600 patients a day, and we treat people from all over the country and internationally,” said Brad Riemann, PhD, chief clinical officer and chief operating officer who is celebrating 25 years of service this year at Rogers. “It’s amazing how far we’ve come, and what’s also remarkable is we still have the same energy and appetite to grow and serve more people.”
One of Rogers’ most significant differentiators is Rogers Research Center, which builds on more than a century of experience in evidence-based clinical practice. Rogers has been collecting data on patient outcomes for more than 20 years and is expanding research to include innovative, prospective studies aimed at accelerating our learning and delivering measurable improvements to mental health treatment practices.
Rogers Research Center is located in Oconomowoc within the Ladish Co. Foundation Center, which opened in 2021 and is also home to the Rogers Foundation and the Ronald McDonald Family Room®.
In addition, Rogers leads the nationwide WISE coalition with the goal of eliminating stigma related to mental health and substance use disorders.
“It is unusual to be able to be part of a heritage and a steward of resources that started 115 years ago. It inspires me every single day,” said John Boyd, PsyD, CEO, Hospital Division. “I don’t think Dr. Rogers and Theresa could have imagined the coast-to-coast care that Rogers has now become, and we believe our best days are ahead of us.”
