City of West Allis issued the following announcement on January 1.
Due to the recent snow forecast for our area, we will be declaring a snow emergency starting Saturday, Jan. 1 at 3 p.m. and concluding on Monday, Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. By declaring a snow emergency, all parking is prohibited on major emergency thoroughfares for the duration of the emergency.
HOW TO PARK - SNOW EMERGENCY PARKING REGULATIONS
Even-Odd Side Parking Required
During a snow emergency, here's what changes from normal parking rules:
No parking on either side of main thoroughfares. This keeps important roads clear for emergency vehicles, buses, and others.
On all other streets:
As of 10 p.m., make sure to park on the even or odd side of the street based on the day of the month. Look at the address numbers to know which side of the street you should be on. Keep parking on that side until 3 p.m. the next day.
The day after the emergency, between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., normal parking rules apply for this brief period. During these hours, there is no requirement to park on any particular side.
If the snow emergency does not end the next day but continues, park on the opposite side by that night at 10 p.m. through to 3 p.m. the next day. An easy way to think about it is this: Our City plows have to clear both sides of the street. Residents and visitors make it easier for plows to come through when we stay on one side of the street, and then the other.
The snow emergency will end at 3 p.m. on a date picked by the Director.
GARBAGE AND RECYCLING NOTEFor garbage and recycling, the first week of January we are still collecting garbage and recycling and will not be canceling collection. This is due to Friday, December 31, 2021 being a holiday off-day and that collection was scheduled for Monday, January 3, 2022.
