City of West Allis recently issued the following announcement.

The City of West Allis, after consultation with the West Allis Police Department, the West Allis Fire Department, the West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation and Community Services Department, and City support staff, will proceed with the West Allis Christmas Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 4 at 4:45 p.m., with significant security investments and additional protective measures guided by Police and Fire. 

“We appreciate the community’s patience as the City has taken appropriate time to make an informed, inclusive decision in regards to the West Allis Christmas parade. As a part of the larger Milwaukee community, our hearts have very much been with Waukesha as we weighed our options and decided how to proceed. We do not take the tragedy that transpired lightly, and have thoroughly re-evaluated our approach to all City events as a result. With this in mind, due to increased investment in our resources and the support of multiple groups, we have decided to move forward with the parade and are assured in our ability to hold this event for the community,” said Mayor Dan Devine. 

The West Allis Youth Commission will be collecting monetary donations along the parade route to help support the victims of the Waukesha parade. 

West Allis Police Department officers on duty Saturday, Dec. 4, will be on heightened alert.   

“We’ve reviewed all operational requirements and have bolstered security protocols to have a safe, secure event on Dec. 4,” said Chief Patrick Mitchell. “The safety of all parade participants and spectators is our utmost concern”.  

To mitigate any risk, the City will: 

• Install concrete barriers and Public Works trucks to block off all parade route side streets and access points, including placing Police squads throughout the parade route 
• Utilize Police vehicles to secure front-end and back-end of the parade route 
• Place Police response teams throughout the parade route

“We are thankful the community understands we are doing our best to navigate difficult circumstances,” said Devine, “Ultimately, the safety and security of our community during events remains our foremost priority.”
