City of West Allis issued the following announcement on Oct. 11

LEAF RELIEF IS HERE!

The leaves are falling and that means the Leaf Relief map is back! Check the map frequently to find out when crews will be collecting leaves in your area. You can see when the last leaf pick up was completed and when the next one is expected so you can plan ahead.

Remember, fall yard waste collection runs through Nov. 14. Here are some tips to make the most of yard waste collection:

Do not place materials in the curb line at any other time.
Do not place materials for collection in drainage ditches, alleys, refuse containers, ash boxes or piles in your yard or driveway. Rake them into the street along the curb line forming a long, low pile.
If you do not have a curb on your street, place your materials along the roadway in a long, low pile.
Open-air burning of yard waste is not permitted in West Allis.
To help prevent materials from blowing around, wet them down.
Remove pots and soil from plants before placing in the curb line.
Do not park vehicles along the curb line near or over yard waste piles.
Do not place brush, woody plants and grass clippings in the yard waste windrows.

WIS 100 PAVING OPERATIONS

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is underway with the WIS 100 (S. 108th Street) resurfacing project from I-43 to the Hank Aaron State Trail. The following work is scheduled for the next phase of this project.

Thursday, October 14 and Friday, October 15:

WIS 100, from Lincoln Avenue to Lapham Street, is scheduled to be reduced to one lane from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while crews perform paving operations.

Saturday, October 16:

WIS 100, from Lincoln Avenue to Lapham Street, is scheduled to be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for approximately one day, while crews perform paving operations.

Alternate Route:

Motorists are encouraged to use Greenfield Avenue, I-41, I-894, and National Avenue to get around the closure. Businesses and residents should be aware that noise will be associated with this work. Please note that all work is weather dependent and subject to change.

FLU VACCINE CLINICS

West Allis Health Department will offer Community Flu Vaccine Clinics this October.

Thursday, Oct. 14 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | West Milwaukee Community Center
Tuesday, Oct. 19 | 3 – 7 p.m. | West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Center
Friday, Oct. 29 | 1 – 3 p.m. | West Allis Senior Center

These clinics are drop-in and no appointment is necessary. Open to all West Allis and West Milwaukee residents. Only insurances accepted: Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Forward Health. All children 18 and under can receive the flu vaccine at no cost. Any insurance holder who has any other insurance coverage outside of the ones listed above will have to pay by cash or check. Adults 19+ without Medicare, Medicare Advantage or Forward Health will have to pay by cash or check at any West Allis Health Department Flu Clinic. If you have insurance but it is not listed, we recommend you research your options to see if you can find a provider that accepts your insurance (i.e. your doctor's office, Walgreens, CVS, etc.).

Regular Dose Flu Shot = $30

High Dose Flu Shot = $60

HEALTHCARE, HOSPITALITY, & IT JOB FAIR OCT. 18

The City of West Allis, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), Lutheran Social Services, and Employ Milwaukee are proud to partner to present Local Connect, a job fair exclusive to the IT, healthcare, and hospitality industries.

Job seekers ages 16 and up are encouraged to attend Local Connect to learn more about opportunities in the IT, healthcare, and hospitality fields. A list of participating employers will be shared on this website and City of West Allis social media prior to this event.

Prior to the Healthcare, Hospitality & IT Job Fair, MATC and Employ Milwaukee will offer FREE career readiness workshops for job seekers on Thursday, October 14th from 1 pm – 4 pm at MATC’s West Allis campus, 1200 S 71st St. The workshops will address interview and job readiness skills such as “Do’s and Don’ts,” “Dress for Success,” “Your Elevator Speech,” and will offer resume reviews for job seekers. These workshops are free and drop-in, so stop by to brush up on your job search skills and ace those interviews when you attend Hospitality Connect!

Job seekers are encouraged to bring printed, current copies of their resumes to the Healthcare, Hospitality & IT Job Fair to share with employers.
