Bryan Steil, a U.S. Congressman representing Wisconsin’s 1st District since 2019, has made several public statements concerning potential foreign funding in American elections through ActBlue. His comments come amidst ongoing investigations and inquiries into the matter.

On December 10, 2024, Steil expressed his concerns on social media about potentially fraudulent transactions occurring on ActBlue. In collaboration with Jim Jordan, he is seeking answers from Sift regarding these transactions. He emphasized his commitment to preventing foreign funding in U.S. elections by stating, “.@Jim_Jordan and I are demanding answers from Sift regarding potentially fraudulent transactions made on ActBlue. I’m committed to preventing foreign funding in our elections.”

Later that day, Steil elaborated on the findings of his investigation into ActBlue. According to documents he obtained, ActBlue has revised its policies to decline donations via gift cards and from countries under sanctions. He reiterated his dedication to safeguarding the electoral process from foreign influence by sharing, “My investigation into ActBlue has uncovered risk of foreign funding in our elections. According to newly obtained documents, ActBlue changed its policies to reject gift cards and donations from sanctioned countries.”

On December 11, 2024, Steil acknowledged continued efforts towards addressing these issues with a brief statement thanking the Speaker for their support: “Thanks, Mr. Speaker. Our work continues.”
